President Obama buys dog Christmas presents

Thursday, 22nd December 2011

It turns out that  even the president of the US likes to spoil his dog at Christmas, as Barack Obama was seen buying pet toys.

The president took his Portuguese Water Dog Bo to a shop ahead of Christmas. The first lady and their daughters are already in Hawaii, where the family will spend the holiday break.

Obama bought his dog a toy bone and a bag of dog treats, while Bo herself played with another dog named Cinnamon. He joked: "OK, Bo, don't get too personal."

The 50-year-old then went to another shop to buy his daughters gifts, including some games for a Wii and iTunes gift cards.

Research by Direct Line recently showed that nine out of ten owners plan to get their dog a Christmas present.

Three-year-old Bo was a gift to the Obama family from Senator Kennedy. The breed was picked because of Malia Obama’s allergies, as Portuguese Water Dogs are a hypoallergenic breed. Bo is referred to as the ‘First Dog’.
