The most common external parasite affecting dogs is the
flea. Every dog will pick up the occasional flea. Given the chance, fleas breed
and can build up huge populations during the summer. Dog fleas often go
unnoticed until there seems to be a massive outbreak, which then takes a while
to eradicate. The most effective dog flea treatments available contain
Fipronil as the active ingredient. Frontline
Spot On was the first product like this. Now there are others that
work in exactly the same way, such as Fiprospot and Effipro. FRONTLINE
Plus and Fiprospot are available in packs of three or six doses, whereas Effipro
comes in packs of four or 24 doses and tends to be the most economical product
to use. Indorex is
our recommended household treatment. It is often said that there will be 100 fleas living in
nooks and crannies around a home for the every one flea found on a dog or cat.
For these reasons, it is important to treat the problem regularly with flea
treatment for dogs, even when no fleas are visible, in order to prevent flea
numbers from accumulating behind the scenes. Using a household spray once per
year (such as Indorex
flea spray)
and vacuuming carpets regularly will help. Do you have a cat too? Discover
