How often should it be applied

Sarah Horridge

  • VioVet customer since 2018
  • From: Hampshire, United Kingdom

The dogs regularly get ticks on them in the summer. How often does this product need to be applied? We have a one year old Jack Russell cross and a five year old Sprocker

  • VioVet Staff

It is recommended to repeat treatment every 4 weeks if wanting preventative cover. This equates to monthly applications for the average owner.

Liquid from the newly opened pipette running down the dogs coat.

Caroline Hirst

How to apply the liquid so it actually sinks into the flesh and you do not loose it running off.

  • VioVet Staff

The hair should be parted and the product applied diretctly onto the skin on the back of the neck, between the shoulder blades. You can apply the pipette in multiple places if you are finding it is running of the coat easily.

Old English

Gill

Is it safe to use on Old English Sheepdogs and collie types

  • VioVet Staff

Yes Frontline is safe to use on Old English Sheepdogs and Collies. It contains Fipronil which does not casue any issues in these breeds. You are probably thinking of ivermectin based flea/wormers, these can be an issue in certain genetically predisposed Collies. However Frontline does not contain this.

Dosage and weight

Lisa

My dog weighs 23 kg so just in the 20-40 kg group for Frontline flea treatment. Will he be ok to have the whole pipette? He's 9 months old. Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

Frontline is a very safe product that has been tested to ensure that any doses within the recommended ranges are safe. I would follow the dose guidelines and give the 20-40kg dose. Even if your dog was 20.1kg I would still be advising you use this dose. Underdosing can lead to a lack of effect of the product and so is not advised.

  • VioVet Staff

Hello Nicola,

There is only one pipette available for cats as this particular treatment covers cats weighing between 1kg-8kg.

Hope this helps.

Puppies

Laura Lowe

  • VioVet customer since 2010
  • From: East Sussex, United Kingdom

Is frontline OK to use for puppies

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Laura, Frontline can be used on puppies over 8 weeks old and weighing over 2kg. I can see that Milo (4kg) is registered on your account, and if he is the puppy you wish to treat, you just need to wait another week and then he can be treated with a pipette of Frontline 2-10kg.
