Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding FRONTLINE Spot On Flea & Tick Treatment Dogs & Cats, including answers from our team.

Dosage and weight

Lisa

My dog weighs 23 kg so just in the 20-40 kg group for Frontline flea treatment. Will he be ok to have the whole pipette? He's 9 months old. Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

Frontline is a very safe product that has been tested to ensure that any doses within the recommended ranges are safe. I would follow the dose guidelines and give the 20-40kg dose. Even if your dog was 20.1kg I would still be advising you use this dose. Underdosing can lead to a lack of effect of the product and so is not advised.

Nicola

Are there different pippette sizes depending upon the weight of cats?

  • VioVet Staff

Hello Nicola,

There is only one pipette available for cats as this particular treatment covers cats weighing between 1kg-8kg.

Hope this helps.

Puppies

Is frontline OK to use for puppies

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Laura, Frontline can be used on puppies over 8 weeks old and weighing over 2kg. I can see that Milo (4kg) is registered on your account, and if he is the puppy you wish to treat, you just need to wait another week and then he can be treated with a pipette of Frontline 2-10kg.

Just over 1kg kitten

Kirsty Sharratt

  • VioVet customer since 2015
  • From: Staffordshire, United Kingdom

I ordered frontline for my kitten who is 14 weeks and he is just weighing over 1kg, i had to purchase stonghold from the vets as he was too light for this before. As hes now just over 1kg is stonghold fine to use on him and do i use the whole pipet or half every 4 weeks.??

  • VioVet Staff

As long as your kitten is over 8 weeks of age and 1kg in bodyweight, you can use Frontline Spot-on.

For Stronghold (which does worms as well but needs a vet's prescription) there are different sizes available, though your vet might not sell all of them. The kitten size of Stronghold is safe to use once the kitten is over 6 weeks of age, regardless of bodyweight. A normal 6 week kitten is never over 1kg but this is not a problem in fact.

Frontline Spot-on is still a great product to use for routine flea and tick control, but you need to do something else as well for worm control. (Stronghold does not treat ticks, so if these are a concern in your area, you probably need Frontline for them anyway.)

Different package

Moon

  • VioVet customer since 2015
  • From: , Korea, Republic of

I'm currently in South Korea and bought a package at a local vet's office but it looks different from the image on this site. Do frontline packages vary according to the countries or continents they are exported to? If so, can I expect to have the same result when I buy Frontline on this site and at the local vet's office?
Thanks in advance.

  • VioVet Staff

Packaging does often vary depending on the country where it is marketed. As long as it is genuinely Frontline, manufactured by Merial, then it will be exactly the same product wherever you buy it from. The Frontline we sell is all genuine and is produced for sale in the UK. We are able to export it but we do not get hold of any different stock to do so, we simply export the UK product.

Obviously I have no idea if the product you bought locally is genuine, but if it cam from a veterinary premises I do not doubt it will be genuine. It just has local packaging.

Greyhound

jan

Can this safely be used on greyhounds as I know greys can be sensitive to chemicals

  • VioVet Staff

Occasionally this product will cause a small sore patch on the skin where it is applied. This is unusual even in Greyhounds but with their thin skin it can certainly occur. Usually they are fine with it and all effective flea product can cause reactions of some sort occasionally. Frontline is extremely safe in other respects and so on balance it is probably a good product for you to use.

Super fleas

Gaynor Tomlin

Can you tell me what to do if fleas & ticks stop responding to frontline after using it on 3 small dogs for 5 years in cyprus with success

  • VioVet Staff

You could get a prescription for Advantix and use that for a while. Usually after a period of time, people find that Frontline will seem to start working again if you keep on using it every month. This is because the problem usually has some other cause and is not down to genuine resistance.
