Why Worry about fleas?

Fleas can cause more than just irritation in dogs; they can lead to flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) or even anaemia (if it’s a severe infestation). Some pets develop allergies to flea saliva, which means even a few bites can lead to severe itching and sore skin infected fleas can also transmit tapeworm if swallowed during grooming. All very nasty stuff.

What’s more, fleas don’t just bite your furry friend, they bite humans too and can infest your home causing irritation to you and your family. Did you know it can take months to get rid of a infestation in your home as only 5% of fleas lice on tour pet, the other 95% are in your home environment as eggs, larvae and pupae.

One application of advantage, the vet-recommended flea treatment, with its fuss-free pipette application gets to work within one day and remains effective for up to four weeks. Advantage is able to kill fleas through contact, no biting required. *

I have been purchasing this product for 9 years now for my 3 dogs and never had any issues with fleas whatsoever. In my opinion it is the very best on the market after viewing lots of different options and treatments. It does state that it keeps your pet protected for 4 weeks which I have only just discovered to be honest and I have used every 4 months and it's still worked just fine so I think it lasts longer than is stated. Fantastic product that I will forever use on my precious 3 furbabies.

Does this product stop ticks ( we have a lot of deer ticks)

  • VioVet Staff

Advantage covers fleas/lice, it does not cover ticks. If you are looking for tick coverage over the counter then I recommend either Frontline Plus or Seresto.

At 11.5kg you should use the Advantage for Large dogs (10-25kg), one whole pipette should be administered as per the product data sheet.

  • VioVet Staff

Hi there,

A puppy has to be at least 8 weeks old.

Water resistant

How soon after application can my dog go swimming?
Does swimming lessen the effectiveness of the treatment

  • VioVet Staff

Thank you for your question, we do advise that you allow the product to dry fully before allowing your dog to go swimming; we would suggest 2 days.

The product remains effective if the animal becomes wet, for example after exposure to heavy rain or after swimming (dogs). However, re-treatment may become necessary, depending on the presence of fleas in the environment. In these cases do not treat more frequently than once weekly.

I do hope this helps.

Ticks too??

Does it help get rid of ticks?

  • VioVet Staff

Thank you for your question.

No, unfortunately this is just a flea prevention.

Thank you.
