Just like babies, most owners feel that their animal companion is the cutest one around and worthy of just about any pet prize going.

The Greenock Telegraph recently ran Pets Factor 2013 which saw adorable pigeons Bushty and Snowball declared Inverclyde's top pet bagging a total of 713 votes of the 12,000 cast.

Now, the newspaper has revealed the other pets that nearly made the grade in the closely run race.

Just missing out on overall first place was adorable canine Zac, with 643 votes. The hound still had his day though as he was made top dog in the hotly contested canine category.

Ragdoll cat Coco proved popular among Tele readers and scooped first place in the feline friend category with 201 votes.

Meanwhile, African grey parrot Harley also made a big impression soaring to second place in the alternative pet category, securing the vote of 147 readers.
