Navy Seal's devoted dog finds new home

Friday, 26th August 2011

A loyal pooch who stayed by his Navy Seal owner's coffin at his funeral has a new home where he can enjoy pet toys and walks.

Hawkeye, a Labrador, remained by Petty Officer Jon Tumilson's coffin after his master was killed in a US helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

However, it has now been revealed that Mr Tumilson's good friend Scott Nichols will take care of Hawkeye.

Nikki Virgilio, a friend of Mr Tumilson, explained that the pooch was a personal pet rather than a military dog.

She wrote on social networking website Facebook: "I can happily report to you that Hawkeye was willed to one of JT’s good friends, the same one that took care of him whenever JT was deployed overseas.

"So he is assuredly in a loving home. JT was an amazing being and his dog is no different."

Mr Tumilson, from California, was one of 38 killed in service on August 6th.
