Many Hollywood actors are heavily involved in charity work these days, whether it's because they genuinely believe in a cause or just because they need to give their PR a little boost. And the same applies to tinsel-town's animal actors, with one award-winning dog becoming the new patron of an American pet charity.
Uggie the Jack Russell has had a long and glittering career in showbiz, culminating in his critically acclaimed performance in the Oscar-winning film 'The Artist'. Since retiring from acting last year, the dog has turned his paw to writing, with a best-selling autobiography released in his name.
Now he has become the 'spokesdog' of the Humane Society of the United States' Pets of Valor Award, which aims to recognise animals which have displayed heroic levels of bravery and loyalty toward their owners, highlighting the extraordinary bond that exists between humans and pets.
The winner of the award will be announced on June 2nd, with the Humane Society's Hollywood Outreach director Beverly Kaskey commenting: "It’s always gratifying when a star of Uggie’s magnitude takes time out of his busy schedule to give back. As spokesdog for the Humane Society of the United States’ Pets of Valor Award, Uggie proves he’s a hero both on and off screen."
