Thank you so much for the very swift delivery of Senilife. Can any of your team advise me on whether it's safe for my dog to have some Valerian drops at night to help her sleep? She's waking in the night and barking - often for no reason. In the past I have found valerian to be very effective for fireworks etc.
Our reply:
It would be safe to try the valerian for this problem, it might work. It seems to be surprisingly common for older dogs to become spontaneously anxious at night, often wandering around barking aimlessly, but they sleep peacefully all through the day! Other options to try are Adaptil and Zylkene. Any of these things might help your dog, either alone or in combination. You will only be able to find out by trying them. They work in different ways, so you will not cause any trouble by using more than one together. The other point to make is that if possible, you should try and keep your dog stimulated during the day, so that she feels tired at night. There are limits to what you can do, but it might be possible to occupy her attention to some extent, and to give her short but varied walks. Your vet could prescribe Vivitonin for this too. It helps some dogs a great deal, but you need to send us a prescription for us to be able to supply it.
