Xylitol is toxic to dogs
15th Feb 2016
Xylitol has become well known to be highly toxic and fatal to dogs...how can it be in this dental product for dogs??
You are right and it is a good question. The answer is that toxicity is very often a function of dose. Vitamin D and Vitamin A will kill dogs or people in high doses, but that does not mean we should avoid them. Clearly without them we are also in serious trouble. Xylitol is a curious product in that at doses which are commonly found in human products it can be seriously toxic to dogs. However the levels found in Aquadent are very much lower than this and it seems it does have a beneficial effect at this level (as an oral antiseptic). I cannot remember the exact figures, but from memory your dog would need to drink gallons of the stuff for it to be dangerous. It really is very similar to the vitamin analogy I mentioned. If you were to swallow a large pot of vitamin supplements you might become seriously ill, but that does not make vitamins supplements bad. You can be reassured by the fact that this product is made by Virbac, a big and successful company which make many animal care products. They will know a huge more about this subject than we do. I would be very happy to use this product on my own dogs. It certainly is not at all toxic to them.
Does Vet Aquadent Contain Parabens?

VioVet Customer Since: March 2013
From: Lancashire, United Kingdom
I have previously purchased another oral hygiene water additive and discarded it because it contains parabens.
Could you tell me if Virbac Vet Aquadent contains parabens?
There are not to be any parabens in this product. It does contain Potassium sorbate which is sometimes used as a replacement for parabens. I have added the full ingredients to the site.
Can it be used for cats with kidney failure?
10th Aug 2013
one of my cats has stage 2 of kidney failure. Can it be harmful for him and make his disease progress quicker?
This product should not have a harmful effect on the kidneys. It should hopefully help his oral health and this should indirectly help the kidneys in fact. An unhealthy mouth is often associated with kidney damage.
Can the aqua dent be used in a water fountain?
16th Jun 2013
Can this product be used in the water fountain. If not what is the easiest way to give it to my cat
This can be used in a water fountain, but the quantity that your cat will receive will be less. It will certainly still be very beneficial.
