This product does work, I was very glad to find it. However, for my elderly Collie cross dog, it is taking 8 tablets a day at the moment, ( as opposed to the 4 tablets, which is the recommended dosage)to be effective. They don't appear to taste awful so I grind them down and put them in her food.

This product is intended for use in dogs only, any use in cats would be off license and have unknown effects. It is advised to use a stool firmer specifically for use in cats if this is what you are looking for. I recommend our own brand ReguTum Paste for short term use if required. If you are looking for a product to use in the long term then ReguTum Fibre Care Powder is more appropriate.

One of my dogs is just over 40kg, so is it correct that I give her 3 tablets, twice daily for 7 days or if her stools harden within a couple of days, I stop giving them?
My other dog has pancreatitis. Are these tablets safe for him to take?

I have contacted the manufacturer who have let us know the following:
The
tablets should only be used for 7 days and then be given a break for 7
days before using again. This is so people avoid using them for ongoing
problems
that could be a sign of underlying issues.
With
regards to using for a dog who suffer with pancreatitis we would always
recommend the customer speaks to their vet to ensure it will be okay to
use.

Stool Firm has been very effective in helping my dog get over her diarrhoea but I am loathe to stop giving her it in one go in case it sparks off another bout. Would it be better to gradually reduce the dosage so that her digestive system has time to adjust?
You can give this product indefinitely if required. It can be abruptly stopped or reduced slowly, whichever works best for your dog. I recommend trial stopping the treatment as most cases of diarrhoea resolve after 5 to 7 days of gut supplement treatment.

The dose for small dogs up to 5kg is 1 tablet daily.

My elderly dog is inactive and goes between constipation and loose.Then starts purging and you canf belive thats 1 day off poo.will these keep her regular.
This product helps firm stools. It may worsen the episodes of constipation when they occur. I recommend using a gut supplement that promotes normal motility and stool function instead. ReguTum Fibre Care is a good choice. You should not start this if your dog is constipated as the fibre within can worsen the constipation initially. Long term use should help normalise stool function though.

Yes the 4 tablets can be given all in one go, once daily. If this is difficult then the dose can also be split e.g. 2 tablets twice daily.

I have a 5 month old bulldane he is 32.1 kg what do I give him to help him and will this help clear out his anal glands ?
You will need to give 7 tablets daily to your 32.1kg dog. This supplement is mainly to help firm stools that are too soft or diarrhoea in consistency. If you are looking for a product to help with anal gland problems then I advise a fibre supplement, such as our own brand ReguTum Fibre Care.

It sounds like your dog is on a diet which does not quite suit it. The majority of dogs such as yours will in fact respond perfectly if they are on an appropriate diet. You woulod need to experiment a bit to find out what is needed, but I would definitely try this before opting for long-term supplements to try and achieve the effect you want. Many dogs do not cope perfectly with some of the ingredients which are used in lots of dog foods. (Wheat, rice, beef, milk commonly a problem.) Ideally you should try your dog on a very restricted diet for 2 weeks, using ingredients which are not found in your dogs normal food. A diet like Barking Heads Fusspot dog food, which is based on salmon and potato, often works very well. You cannot allow any tit-bits or other foods/drinks for 2 weeks, just this food and water. If that sorts it out (it will for most dogs) then you can try adding other foods as you wish and see what is OK and what is best avoided.
Pro-biotics do work for some dogs and Mark & Chappell Stool Firm-UM is a good example. They are very safe and will not cause any trouble, but on the right diet, should not be needed long-term.
