My dog seems to like it and it’s a good price

VioVet so far has been great. This product, however, not so much. It was recommend by my vet when my dog had crystals in her urine. While it contains the compund that is supposed to help prevent urinary problems, it is expensive but is the lease expensive of about 2 other options, total of 3 options. Also it is very greasy. While it may be good for urinary health, I'm not too sure about other issues. The first two ingredient listed are corn and wheat flour. Not great. She is 12 and a high fat diet probably isn't the best for her. I have set up a recurring oder and am confident VioVet's reliability.

Excellent product for bitches who have had a urinary stone. Don’t over feed though as it is quite high in fat. I do 50:50 with a regular senior mix and that works well

Amazing - my cocker spaniel suffered with urinary tract infections and the vets didn’t know why, until I switched her to this food. She hasn’t had an infection for over 2 years now.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding PRO PLAN VETERINARY DIETS UR Urinary Dry Dog Food, including answers from our team.
Ken Thomas
How many grams a day should an 11kgm dog need of this food
You will need to feed your 11kg dog between 170 and 280g of the feed over 24hours. This can be split into however many meals you like. You should feed towards the high end of this range if your dog is particularly active or has a high nutritional demand.

My dog is 7 years old. She had struvite (magnesium phosphate ) stones removed from the urine bladder.
I heard this food is ok, but because it is salty, it is not ment for long term use in fear of heart problems.
Is it true?
Excessive dietary intake of salt might possibly increase the risk of kidney disease in dogs, perhaps more than heart disease. Therefore theoretically it is worth avoiding if possible. I believe that the salt levels in this diet are higher than the ideal in normal circumstances, but the risk of further struvite problems is a much bigger concern now than any possible consequences of an increased sodium intake. On balance, I would advise that this diet is suitable for long-term use for your dog, but you should also discuss this with your own vet.
