Wear 'supportive footwear' when walking your dog

People across the UK who regularly pop on their pooch's dog collar and lead to take their four-legged friend out on a walk should make sure they are wearing supportive footwear.

Maria Castellina, a spokeswoman for The Ramblers, Britain's walking charity, has offered some advice to older people on what to wear when out walking.

This may be particularly important advice to dog owners, as recent research by esure found that the average owner walks their pooch 36 miles a week.

Ms Castellina said: "When walking, your feet are always key and it's important to have sturdy and supportive footwear suitable for the terrain you're walking on. You should always make sure that you have enough layers of clothing to keep you warm."

She added that if you will be walking for a long time, you should take something to eat and drink so that you do not run out of energy.
