Pensioner reveals joy at return of stolen dog

An 80-year-old woman whose pet pooch was stolen is back to spoiling it with dog toys and treats.

Barbara Witham, from Lancashire, was distraught when she came home to find her home had been burgled and her Yorkshire Terrier, Honey, was missing, reports the Lancashire Evening Post.

Luckily, however, Honey had been microchipped and the following day, Ms Witham received a phone call from a rescue centre saying her four-legged friend had been found in Bolton town centre.

She told the news provider: "I rushed upstairs looking for Honey and found my bedroom totally ransacked.

"But there was no Honey and I didn't sleep all night worrying about her.

"It was so wonderful to get Honey back. She was so hungry and thirsty, but was delighted to be back and kept licking and kissing everyone."

Ms Witham added that if Honey had not been microchipped, she would never have been returned.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home recently highlighted the importance of microchipping, claiming that around half of the cats it takes in have homes.
