National Training Camp for children to be held this summer

Friday, 24th February 2012

Children will have the opportunity to learn how to properly train their dogs this summer through the Young Kennel Club's National Training Camp.

The event will take place between July 28th and August 3rd at Brooksby College in Melton Mowbray. Children will be provided obedience training and can take part in sports such as agility and flyball.

Vanessa McAlpine, events and education executive for the Kennel Club, said: "We see a great mix of children aged eight to 15 at camp. Many children return year after year, but we always see a lot of people coming for their first experience and having a wonderful time."

She added that often the children that take part have a stronger relationship with their dog after the camp.

Andrea McHugh, who will be attending the event for the third time this year with her 12-year-old daughter Maddie, said: "We wouldn't miss it for the world! It’s a fantastic experience for kids, parents and dogs."
