Homeward Bound: Stolen dog travels 900 miles home

It really was a case of Homeward Bound for one Italian Greyhound who travelled 900 miles from Virginia to Illinois to be reunited with his family, the Suburban Journals of Greater St. Louis reports.

Five-year-old Dauz disappeared from the fenced yard of his southwestern Illinois home eight months ago, only to reappear last month at an animal shelter in Fairfax, Virginia to the delight of the Dausman family.

Mother Alicia Dausman believes that their beloved dog was snatched by a friend's family member who was living with them on a temporary basis. He was then given to a couple who lives in Virginia.

The five year-old pet was reunited with his owners after the Virginia shelter scanned the digital identification chip found in the dog's neck.

Ms Dausman said: "If there is one lesson to be learned, it's get your pets micro-chipped. And never give up. Miracles do happen."

Dauz has been lavished with clothing and dog chew toys from his loved ones and neighbours since returning home, she revealed.
