Don't let duck muck ruin your Easter

Thursday, 21st March 2013

Easter and ducks go together like chocolate and, well, more chocolate, but animal lovers are being warned not to adopt a pet duckling without taking into account just how messy they can be.

With yellow fluffy ducklings appearing in parks, ponds and pet shops in staggering numbers at this time of year it can be very tempting to bring one into your home, although if you do so you're sure to discover a rather less cute side to these adorable animals, namely duck poo.

According to the Calgary Herald, officials at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals claim that the average domestic duck relieves itself once every 15 minutes, meaning owners have a considerable amount of work on their hands cleaning up after their pets.

As a result, many people end up giving up their ducks shortly after adopting them, which is why it's important to think seriously before doing do. While you can pick up duck diapers from your local animal pharmacy or online, it's certainly worth remembering that caring for these cute pets can be a messy business.
