Dog lovers turn out in force in Loughborough

A number of dogs look set to get new homes in Loughborough when a new rehoming centre opens in Wymeswold in the summer.

Over 1,000 locals turned up for an Information Day held by the charity and Dogs Trust is hoping people will turn up when the centre opens to take home a dog and spoil it with pet toys.

Nikki Smith, manager of the Loughborough Dogs Trust centre, said: "Our Information Day was a huge success and we are overwhelmed by the support local people have shown the charity.

"If this is the response we get to an information day, we can’t wait to see how many people come along to the centre when it opens in early Summer."

Also present at the Information Day were the Mayor and Mayoress of Loughborough, who were joined by balloon makers and dogs.

The centre’s opening could not come at a better time, as the number of abandoned dogs is currently at an 11 year high. Sadly, local authorities in the region had to put down over 1,000 dogs over the last year, so the centre is much needed.
