Want money off your holiday? Take your pet along

Monday, 14th January 2013

Pet owners who want to take their animals with them when they go on holiday could be in for an added discount, if a new craze from America takes hold this side of the pond.

The city of Sedona in Arizona is gaining a reputation as the most pet-friendly place in the whole of the US, as many hotels and restaurants have now begun adopting a 'pets welcome' policy.

Now, the four-diamond El Portal hotel is even offering visitors 30 per cent off midweek rates if they bring their pet along, in an attempt to capture more of the animal-owning market. The hotel will be serving pet food and will contain special areas for animals to relax and play while their owners use the facilities.

By declaring January to be 'pet month', El Sedona could well spark a trend as other hotels try to compete for business, all of which could have a knock-on effect within the global hotel industry.

While the craze has not yet taken hold in the UK, London's Liberty department store has recently begun allowing pets onto the premises, which could potentially be the beginnings of a more pet-friendly attitude amongst major retail shops.
