The Prince of Wales will now have to include dog food on his royal shopping list as he has adopted a Jack Russell.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall adopted the 12-week-old pup from Battersea Dogs Home in London.

Camilla Parker Bowles is a known lover of Jack Russells, having had pup Freddy for 21 years before his death in 2008.

The new puppy, Beth, will now take up residence in Highgrove.

She told the news provider: "Guess what - I have adopted a puppy! I just couldn't resist her, she is gorgeous. It is so exciting. I can't wait for her to meet the family."

Claire Horton, chief executive at the charity, added: "We're delighted that the Duchess of Cornwall has adopted Beth. Beth is a charming, confident little puppy and we know she will be very happy in her new home."

Ms Horton noted that Battersea is looking forward to hearing about Beth's progress at her new home.
