A lost pooch was returned to its family after a member of the pubic enticed it with dog food treats.

Maria and Shaun Murphy's Schnauzer Earl went missing from their Andover home on August 20th, however after they wrote to the Andover Advertiser, local residents pooled together to aid the search.

Ms Murphy thanked the news provider and everyone who helped look for Earl.

"The lady that found Earl had read about him in your newspaper and found our telephone numbers to contact us," she is quoted as saying.

"We would like to thank everyone who spent time looking for Earl, putting up posters and generally raising awareness of his plight.

"Special thanks to Barbara, who discovered him then enticed him with treats."

Earl was found on August 27th and, although he had lost weight, he was unharmed.

Battersea Dogs & Cats home recently highlighted the importance of microchipping after revealing half of the cats it shelters actually have homes but have no form of identification.
