Fears raised over chicken jerky pet treats

Wednesday, 30th January 2013

A pet food manufacturer which produces chicken jerky for dogs in China has been recalling its products after fears were raised over the safety of the meat.

Dog owners should be aware that regulations over the use of certain antibiotics in animals being reared for food are not as stringent in China as they are in other countries such as the UK and US, which is why some pet foods manufactured in the Orient might not be safe for your animal.

Hartz Mountain Corporation is now recalling its chicken and pork products from around the world after more than 500 dogs tragically died and many others became ill due to eating the food.

Pet owners should be advised to always read the label on all food products in order to ascertain exactly what goes into their animals' diet, and should try to stick to trusted brands such as Hills or Burns.
