Town celebrates cat that defied the odds to win top prize

The town of Shrewsbury is celebrating its latest local celebrity – a cat who came of a coma to win the feline equivalent of Crufts.

Six-year-old Bengal cat Boo, who lives with his owner Alex Crutchley in the Shropshire town, triumphed against the odds to even attend the 2012 Supreme Cat Show in Birmingham, having been in a coma for several days after he was hit by a car shortly after his first birthday.

What's more, not only did the beloved pet manage to overcome an injured hip to take to the stage at the NEC, he also took home the coveted Best of Variety category title.

Speaking to the Shropshire Star, family friend and breeder of Begal cats Sue Moreland said that Boo is "a beautifully marked cat, with a beautiful colour and lovely expressive eyes".

"He has a very smug look as though he knows he is special," she added.

As well as the Best of Variety of category, cats were also placed in categories including Best British, Burmese, Siamese and Supreme Cat.
