Elderly cat rescued after starving on the streets

Thursday, 26th July 2012

An elderly cat is being nursed back to health with plenty of cat food after being found emaciated on a street in Dunfermline.

The Scottish SPCA is now searching the owner of the cat, who has been named Cleo. When she was found, Cleo was struggling to walk and was very weak.

Nicola Liddell, inspector at the charity, said: "Cleo is a very friendly, sweet wee girl who has obviously been someone's pet.

"We don't think she's been straying for long as her overgrown claws suggest she may have been kept as a house cat before being found outside."

She added that Cleo was also infested with fleas and is being kept at the vets for monitoring for now.

As she did not have any identification on her, there is no way of contacting Cleo's owner. The charity is hoping someone will recognise the black cat and get in touch with them on its animal helpline 03000 999 999.
