Celebrities show their support for National Cat Awards

Thursday, 26th July 2012

The cat-loving celebrity judges for this year's National Cat Awards have spoken about how they will choose the winners.

Musician Rick Wakeman, model Lucy Pinder, comedian Ed Byrne and former newsreader Jan Leeming will be judging the competition, which is run by Cats Protection.

Wakeman, who is judging the Best Friends catergory, said: "No two cats are remotely the same so it’ll be tough deciding which has been the best cat friend from so many deserving entries."

Contenders for the Best Friends category include Morgan, who helped his owner cope with depression, and Jessi-Cat, who helped her seven-year-old mute owner to speak.

Pinder, who will be judging the Hero Cat category, said: "I'd give them all first prize if I could. It just goes to show how cats have the ability to amaze and surprise us all."

Two of the cats in this category are Basil, who saved his owners from a potentially fatal gas explosion, and Leo, who scared off a burglar from his home.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Savoy in London on August 16th.
