Description

Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus is a vaccine used in rabbits to reduce death and clinical signs due to myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD). Myxomatosis is caused by the myxoma virus and is spread between rabbits by close contact and biting insects such as fleas and mosquitoes. The virus causes swelling and discharge from the eyes, nose and bottom with most rabbits dying within 10 – 14 days. RHD, caused by classical RHD virus (RHDV1) and RHD type 2 virus (RHDV2), leads to blood clots in major organs such as the heart, lungs and kidneys leading to heart and respiratory failure when the heart and lungs do not work properly. Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus contains live myxoma vectored RHD virus strains 009 and MK1899.

Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus is a new vaccine developed to reduce death in rabbits, as well as clinical signs of myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD).

Myxomatosis is caused by the myxoma virus and is spread between rabbits in close contact with one another, as well as by biting insects such as fleas and mosquitoes. The virus causes swelling and discharge from the eyes, nose and bottom and has a very poor prognosis, with most rabbits dying within 10 – 14 days.

RHD, caused by the RHD virus (RHDV1) and RHD type 2 virus (RHDV2), leads to blood clots in major organs such as the heart and lungs. This subequently leads to heart and respiratory failure when the heart and lungs stop working. Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus contains live myxoma vectored RHD virus strains 009 and MK1899.

Rabbits used to have two injections per year in order to protect against myxo/RHDV1 and RHDV2. This new vaccine contains everything combined in one vial, so rabbits would only require once yearly vaccines if Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus is used.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus, including answers from our team.

Delaying booster vaccines

Caroline Mooney

How long is it safe to delay Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus boosters beyond the one year anniversary?

  • VioVet Staff

The vaccination is licensed for yearly boosters, this means if you leave the vaccine significantly beyond the 12 month time period then immunity may dwindle to non-protective levels. This means that if faced with the diseases it protects against (myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease) then your rabbit may not have a strong enough immunity to overcome them.

Is this only available in a single dose? I have 9 rabbits, would i have to order this 9 different times with 9 different prescriptions? Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

This product is dispensed as single doses but it does come in packs of 5. If you ordered 9 single doses then you would recieve 1 pack of 5 and 1 pack of 4 vaccines.
Your vet can prescribe all 9 vaccines on one prescription and you can place an order for 9 single doses all in one order.
