Having been only using this for a couple of weeks it seems to be working. Dogs breath is fresher, don’t know how effective it is on plaque yet

Good, so far dogs breath is much better so time will tell for tooth care

Wasn’t sure about it and worried that dog wouldn’t drink the water with it in but he does and his breath does seem better and when brushing his teeth the plaque is coming off , so pleasantly surprised

Easy to use and works well

I bought it as my dog is older now and occasionally has bad breath. This is very effective and she likes the flavour.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Virbac Vet Aquadent Water Additive for Dogs and Cats, including answers from our team.

My dog has stomach problems and can't tolerate a lot of things. He has hypoallergenic food, would this affect him?
This depends on what your dog is allergic to. Aquadent contains xylitol as the active ingredient which should not be the cause of an allergy in your dog. It is very likely this product will be safe for use in your allergic dog.
However with any product there is a rare chance of intolerances/allergies occuring and this unfortunately can never be ruled out.

I have several dogs with a couple of water bowls in the house. Does it matter how much the dogs and cats drink? Some drink more than others and because I have more than one I don't know how much each dog or cat drinks. Can this safely be used in a communal water bowl where they just help themselves?
If you dilute this product at the advised 5ml per 500ml drinking water doseage then you do not need to worry about doseage, your pets will only drink a safe amount of the product. A cat will drink less than a dog and so receive much less of the product.

Can I add Vet aquadent to wet/dry cat food instead of putting it in water?
Hello,
Thank you for your question,
I would not advise using this over food as it would change the texture and consitiency of the food. The product is intended to be diluted in water but if your pets are sensitive to change you can build up to the required amount over a week or so, so they can adjust to any change in scent or flavour.
If you'd like something to add to wet food, OraFresh Dental Granules would be ideal (again, build up to the recommended amount slowly to let your cat adjust to the change). Alternatively we have a poultry flavouredOraFresh Oral Hygiene Paste which could be licked off your finger or rubbed onto their gums.
Thank you.

Xylitol has become well known to be highly toxic and fatal to dogs...how can it be in this dental product for dogs??
You are right and it is a good question. The answer is that toxicity is very often a function of dose. Vitamin D and Vitamin A will kill dogs or people in high doses, but that does not mean we should avoid them. Clearly without them we are also in serious trouble. Xylitol is a curious product in that at doses which are commonly found in human products it can be seriously toxic to dogs. However the levels found in Aquadent are very much lower than this and it seems it does have a beneficial effect at this level (as an oral antiseptic). I cannot remember the exact figures, but from memory your dog would need to drink gallons of the stuff for it to be dangerous. It really is very similar to the vitamin analogy I mentioned. If you were to swallow a large pot of vitamin supplements you might become seriously ill, but that does not make vitamins supplements bad. You can be reassured by the fact that this product is made by Virbac, a big and successful company which make many animal care products. They will know a huge more about this subject than we do. I would be very happy to use this product on my own dogs. It certainly is not at all toxic to them.

I have previously purchased another oral hygiene water additive and discarded it because it contains parabens.
Could you tell me if Virbac Vet Aquadent contains parabens?
Many thanks.
There are not to be any parabens in this product. It does contain Potassium sorbate which is sometimes used as a replacement for parabens. I have added the full ingredients to the site.

Hi,
one of my cats has stage 2 of kidney failure. Can it be harmful for him and make his disease progress quicker?
Thank you.
This product should not have a harmful effect on the kidneys. It should hopefully help his oral health and this should indirectly help the kidneys in fact. An unhealthy mouth is often associated with kidney damage.

Hi
Can this product be used in the water fountain. If not what is the easiest way to give it to my cat
This can be used in a water fountain, but the quantity that your cat will receive will be less. It will certainly still be very beneficial.
