I initially tried the disposable nappies (see review on those) which were unsuccessful, as too small. So, reluctantly due to cost, ended up buying these (also disposables not stocked in shop where I purchased this). I decided to go for a XL & L. They were for doubly incontinent male 14 1/2yr greyhound with 17" waist. I found the XL fitted very well because they do actually go as small as 15 1/2" waist (39.2cm) because of the velcro adjustment on the waist -even though packaging says suits waist 22-35".
So, as long as the nappy itself is long enough end to end it can actually work for male dogs also. Also used ladies tena pads inside for extra absorbency, as they don't hold as much as you would hope!
Below are my measurements of both nappy sizes I tried
XL overall length 20 1/2 " (52cm) un-stretched, min waist 15 1/2" (39.2cm) -done up & measured internally
L overall length 17 "(43cm) un-stretched, min waist 14 1/2"(36.8cm) - done up & measured internally.
I have also washed them by hand and in machine, dried on radiator and even in tumble dryer. They have washed and dried well. They do dry fairly quickly on rads, even if been hand-washed. Buddy did not offer his opinion, so I guessed! I hope the above helps others with their choice!

Just has no chance of covering the male member which peers out happily not affected and therefore no good for boys...............
