Description

PURINA® PROPLAN® VETERINARY DIETS Canine NF Renal Function is a complete veterinary diet for dogs with chronic kidney disease. PPVD NF contains restricted amounts of phosphorus as this mineral can build up in kidney patients and has been shown to contribute to progression of the condition. It also contains limited amounts of high quality protein to help reduce the build-up of toxins, while helping to maintain muscle mass. Omega-3 fatty acids also help maximise the natural anti-inflammatory processes and reduce blood pressure inside the kidney.
Note that PPVD NF is not suitable for dogs that require a high protein/phosphorus diet such as pregnant bitches or growing puppies.

Dietary phosphate restriction to support kidney function, helping to slow down progression of chronic kidney disease.

Restricted but high quality protein to help reduce the build-up of toxins in the body and therefore improve quality of life.

Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce blood pressure in the kidneys and maximises the natural anti-inflammatory process.

Delivery of temperature controlled items

Some products, such as non-ambient items and frozen food, need to be delivered in insulated packaging to prevent them from getting too warm (or too cold) during transit from us to you. Purchasing any of these items in your order will result in a £1.99 charge being added to the total to cover the high cost of the insulated packaging materials. You only pay the £1.99 once per order, regardless of how many temperature controlled items you purchase in that order.

Renal Dog Food

Lisa

Hi, I have a 12 yr old Border Collie who suffered a bout of Pancreatitis over 7 years ago. Following a routine blood test (for Dental work) it was discovered that his kidney function is at the high end of normal (ie not failing.) The vet has suggested I put him on a renal food but these appear to be high in fat which is what I want to avoid. Would your food be suitable for him? He weighs 19 KG. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you. Lisa

With two separate clinical conditions to consider it is always difficult to recommend the right food. For cases like this you should really work through it with your own vet who has a better understanding of your dogs history. Given the known benefits of a renal diet for dogs with reduced kidney function I would agree that challenging your dog with a slightly higher fat renal diet is on balance worth the risk. I would suggest Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Renal Wet Dog food which is lower fat (9%) than most of the other renal foods like Purina which contains 14.5% fat. Over the next month you should monitor closely his gastrointestinal response to the new food.
