No, Microenteral nutrition only provides enough fluids, electrolytes and nutrients to nourish the intestine cells. IV fluids may also be required based on the patients hydration status.
Yes, Most patients are offered water 2 to 3 hrs prior to any procedure. Oralade makes a palatable alternative, providing a balance of electrolytes and fluids + simple nutrition, that will quickly absorb.
Enterocytes begin to atrophy in less than 90 minutes, from lack of direct nutrient supply, GI shock from Trauma, disease or other dysfunction. It is important to remember that often sick patients have been anorexic for 2 to 3 days prior to admission.
Oralade is an ideal product for patients in post operative recovery. Easy to digest, fast to absorb and providing both effective hydration and baseline nutrition. Suitable for Gi related surgery and especially short bowel syndrome, or any other type of procedure. Oralade also eases the reintroduction of oral fluids following IV therapy.
Containing only 2% hydolized chicken liver flavour, Oralade has very low allergen levels making it suitable for most hypoallergenic patients. Hydrolyzed chicken liver is organ meat that’s been chemically broken down into its component amino acids. Hydrolyzed proteins are considered hypoallergenic.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Oralade Isotonic Rehydration Fluid for Dogs & Cats, including answers from our team.
Can puppies have oralade from 4 weeks old?
Yes, Oralade is suitable to give from birth so should be fine for 4 weeks old puppies.
My cat has IBD and is basically allergic to anything with intact protein. He's on a hydrolysed diet, but can only have dry food. He's refuses to drink water unless he's very dehydrated. Would this product be suitable to help keep him hydrated without triggering his IBD?
This product might be OK for your dog, but the chicken liver flavouring might possibly trigger the IBD. The flavouring has been partly broken down just as in the hydrolysed veterinary diets and so this might make it acceptable, but this might not be adequate and you would only know by trying it. You can also offer water in glass or ceramic bowls on window sills and similar places around the house as this encourages cats to drink a bit more. You can even buy a water fountain and some cats drink well from these.
