Galastop is used to stop the signs of phantom pregnancy in bitches, including the production of milk. Usually the bitch's behaviour signs are the first to respond (such as nesting behaviour) then milk production dries up. Galastop can also be used after the birth of puppies if this is required. Galastop is supplied as a liquid which is given once daily by mouth for at least 4 days. If required, treatment can be continued for up to 12 days. Most bitches respond after a few days.

How long does vomiting and not eating last when dog is on galastop

  • VioVet Staff

This is usually a temporary effect and lasts either one or two days, it is very rare for it to go on any longer. Usually it is mild too. This response is very much dose related and so it would be sensible for your dog to be re-weighed and the dose re-calculated just to make sure this is correct (though it probably is). There can of course be other causes of these symptoms so your vet should check the bitch to ensure there is no indication of another underlying cause.

Galastop medicine

gave my dog the medicine described by vet but since giving it her she seems very sleepy and week!!! Why

  • VioVet Staff

This medication lowers the blood pressure in some dogs and can be associated with weakness and quietness for a short while, but this soon passes off. It is not usually something to be particularly alarmed about, but it is best not to combine it with any other medication in case this makes it worse. If the symptoms are not settling down quickly, you must of course contact your vet and get your dog checked over. Occasionally a different dosing schedule might be required.

Can Galastop cause bitches to come into season.?

  • VioVet Staff

Galastop is designed to inhibit the hormone which promotes milk production and some of the behavioral changes seen in phantom pregnancy. It should not be able to bring a bitch into season and I do not think it could.
