Description

Intestinal worms, whether Roundworms or Tapeworms, can pose a potentially serious health threat to your dogs if left untreated, so regular worming (every 3 months) is a necessity. In order to survive and multiply within the internal environment of your dog, worms will feed on the blood and content of the gut, with some laying dormant for up to a year within the muscle tissue, depositing an unprecedented number of eggs every day. This can lead to unpleasant symptoms of sickness, loss of appetite, diarrhoea and excessive bottom cleaning, however, sometimes worms are not accompanied by any diagnostic symptoms. Not only are worms a troublesome affliction for your dog, but they can be potentially hazardous for you if transferred through touching and licking, or picked up on your shoes and brought into the home. Drontal is an effective, economical worming treatment for dogs and cats, acting to safeguard your pet against the intrusion of harmful worms in the body, comprising an active ingredient that interferes with the energy metabolism of worms, causing them to die and pass out of the body. Drontal de-wormers are available in palatable flavours to encourage willing consumption and in a suitable form for puppies.

Please note, Drontal Puppy Suspension is only suitable for dogs up to one year old.

Even though the symptoms of worm infestation are not readily visible, most vets will advise you to de-worm your pet at least every 3 months. This will prevent a heavy worm burden building up, which could cause significant health problems for your dog or cat. Equally importantly, a regular Drontal dose will eradicate the one or two round worms (Toxocara species) often present in our pets but causing no apparent symptoms at all. These sub-clinical infections are important because these worms will be laying eggs which are passed out in the faeces and can remain dormant on the ground for long periods (or even on your pet's coat). If these microscopic eggs are accidentally ingested by children then they may start to develop inside the child's body. This development can result in microscopic worm larvae migrating into the brain, eye or other organs of the child with sometimes very serious consequences (visceral larva migrans). Regular worming with Drontal is therefore an important part of responsible pet ownership with regard to human health, besides being beneficial for your dog.Drontal dog wormer kills every type of intestinal worm that infects dogs in the UK. Drontal for dogs comes in flavoured tablets and are available in two sizes, with Drontal Plus for smaller dogs, which has a bone shaped tablet, and Drontal Plus XL for larger breeds. A single dose of Drontal is an effective treatment and dose not need to be repeated until more worms may have been picked up. The British Veterinary Association recommends treating adult dogs for worms every 3 months.

Drontal Cat comes in two sizes, with the standard tablet treating cats up to 4kg bodyweight, and Drontal Cat XL treating larger cats up to 6kg in weight. Drontal Cat is suitable for kittens over 6 weeks old.

55 Works really well (Plus Flavour XL for Dogs)

Easy to use, we put it in my labrador's dried food and he had no issues to eat it (although he eats anything). He has a very sensitive stomach but had no problem to digest it.
Our dog seemed to have a very bad worms infestation and it was effective in a few hours. We could see that his bum was not so itchy and he didn't seem to be starving anymore (the worms were eating all his food).
This is also much cheaper on this website than in the pet shop or most online website. I recommend this product and viovet.

How often to worm kitten which had worms

Luchi

My 8 week old kitten has been wormed for the first time and passed dead worms in her faeces. This is the first time she has been wormed. How often should I worm her now? Is it every 2 weeks until 12 weeks and then every 3 months. Just need to make sure all the worms she had are gone. Thanks.

  • Key Account Manager

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

Kittens need to be wormed every two weeks until twelve weeks of age, then monthly until six months of age. After six months all cats need to be wormed every three months for effective protection.

Hope this helps.

Laura

Can i used these tablets on 4 week old kittens

  • Veterinary Advisor

Drontal is not intended for use in kittens less than 6 weeks old so it would be best to wait for another 2 weeks before giving.

Lungworm treatments

John Carlin

Can this product be used for treating lungworm in dogs. If not what other treatments do you have that can treat lungworm and be purchased without a vets prescription

  • Veterinary Advisor

No, Drontal is not effective against lungworm. For the dangerous type of lungworm that we are interested in treating, Angiostrongylus Vasorum, you would need a product such as Advocate or Milbemax which requires a prescription from your vet. Unfortunately there are not any non-prescriptions medications that treat this lungworm.

Worm treatment for Cats

Drontal tablets make my cat sick and he brings the tablet back up. He suffers from roundworm picked up I suspect from drinking pond water from local school garden! Would appreciate any helpful suggestions.

  • Veterinary Advisor

If tablets are not agreeing with your cat then you could try a spot on. I would suggest Broadline which is effective against fleas, ticks, roundworms and tapeworms. It is the broadest spectrum product for cats and gives complete parasite control so you do not need to use anything else for flea treatments etc. It is applied once a month to the skin on the back of the neck.

Drontal

Helen

Hi, I've just purchased the drontal XL as the flavour bone said it only treats up to 10k and our pup is just over 13k. However, looking at the dosage, am I right in thinking I only need to feed half a tablet for up to 17k?
Could I have also purchased the flavour bone (as it's much cheaper!) & increased the dosage to suit a 13k pup? If so, what would I increase the dosage to? Thanks, Helen

  • Veterinary Advisor

If you have the XL tablet then you are right- just feed half a tablet. If you prefer the flavour bone tablet in the future then you can buy these and give 1.5 tablets which will dose for 10-15kg.

My dogs weigh 18 KGS and 11 kgs what dosage should I give ? 2 and 1?

  • Brand Manager

Hi Rosemarie,

Your 18kg dog will need 2 tablets and your 11kg dog will need 1.5 tablets to ensure they get enough of the active ingredient to be effective for their weight.
