Ingredients

  • SAMe
A stabilised form of the S,S-SAMe isomer, the predominant form synthesised in cells and the isomer which is biologically active
  • Silybin
Silybin complexed with phosphatidylcholine, which has been shown to be more bioavailable than silybin alone.

Administration Instructions

The coated tablet protects the SAMe from degradation. Denamarin is also blister-packed to prevent oxidation of the SAMe to the non-biologically active R,S-SAMe isomer.

Liver supplements

Delivery was prompt. My dog does like taste of tablets first tablets he has refused but chicken paste smeared on works. Product is as advertised. Awaiting for his next blood test to assess if working, so far so good. They are expensive but seem to be best available recommended by my vet.

Puppy

Sally Embley

Hi can I give this to a 12 week old Deerhound puppy with liver shunt? Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

There is no reason this supplement will not be safe for supporting a 12 week old puppy's liver, however you should only give supplements/food/medication alongside your vets advice if they have a liver shunt. Changes to the diet can affect the condition depending on the severity so it is important your vet approves the use beforehand.

Giving Denamarin tablet

Dexter

I find it very difficult to get my dog to take the tablet. Sometimes it takes two or three attempts, by which time the tablet is losing its coating. Will this make any difference to the tablet's effectiveness? We have sometimes given it with a small amount of food, is this a problem?

  • VioVet Staff

The enteric coating of Denamarin protects the SAMe from degradation in the stomach so that the maximum amount can be absorbed in the small intestine. If the coating is lost then it is likely to be less effective. It is better as you say to give with a very small amount of food then give a main meal one hour later.

Protexin Denamarin

Amanda Lloyd

Is Protein Denamarin a better option then Hepatosyl plus for liver problems?

  • VioVet Staff

Both products contain very similar ingredients. However it is thought that Denamarin is more bio-available so more of the product is absorbed and used by the body. Although, to my knowledge there have not been any studies which compare the two so it is difficult to say with certainty that Denamarin is better.

Denamarin with food

Dan Jackson

  • VioVet customer since 2015
  • From: Sir Benfro, United Kingdom

Hello, as per the guidelines we give our Jack Russell the Denmarin 1 hour before eating, always in the morning. shortly we will be leaving her at a kennel for 8 days, will administering it with food be an issue for this short period. Some neighbours of ours always give it with food? Many thanks. Dan

  • VioVet Staff

Giving it with food is often what people have to do, though it is less good than doing it as recommended. It will reduce the effectiveness of that particular dose, because the active ingredient will not be absorbed fully from the gut and will "come out the other end" without ever getting to the liver. However some will be absorbed and for a short period of a few days it is unlikely to make a noticeable difference. Ideally ask the kennels to give the medication with a minimal amount of food, then give a meal later. If they cannot then it should not be a disaster.
