Newcastle set for Paws with Pride

Friday, 22nd July 2011

Pet lovers in Newcastle who love to parade their pooch on its dog collar and lead may enjoy attending the Paws with Pride show being held in the city this Sunday (July 24th).

Taking place in Leazes Park, the event has been organised as part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) event Northern Pride.

Owners will have the opportunity to enter their pooch into the 12 competitions taking place for £1 each.

These include Waggiest Tail, Cheekiest Expression and the Most Camp/Butch Dog, which is a fancy dress competition.

There will also be a host of other activities taking place and owners will have the opportunity to browse the market stalls and refreshment stands.

Ken Mortimer, the show organiser, told the BBC: "People love a dog show, people love animals. That kind of love and enthusiasm for animals isn't determined by someone's sexual orientation.

"They'll come because they're competitive and they want their animal to win."
