Dogs Trust issues nighttime walking advice

Thursday, 25th October 2012

People need to take extra caution when walking their dogs from this Sunday (October 28th).

This is because the clocks will go back by one hour, which means the evenings are going to get shorter.

Anyone who walks their dog before or after work will more than likely be doing this in the dark for the next few months and the Dogs Trust has issued some guidance to help them.

It suggests that people stay in control of their dog by keeping them on a lead, unless they are in a safe, well-lit area.

Canines should also wear a reflective collar so they are easier to spot, while working against the flow of traffic is advised if there is no pavement.

Dogs Trust chief executive Clarissa Baldwin said: "With the nights and mornings getting darker earlier, it is important to keep both you and your dog safe when you are out ."
