Our customer asked:

My six month old Akita puppy has got kidney disease, ( waiting for biopsy results ). She weighs 27kg . Could you let me know what strength Rubenal tablets are suitable for her
and any other products you may think would be of benefit?

Our reply:

I am sorry to hear your young puppy has this problem. Depending on the cause, things might not turn out too badly. The dose rate of Rubenal is approximately http://www.viovet.co.uk/Hills_Prescription_Diet_KD_Dog_Food/c101/">Hills k/d prescription diet would help, but your vet could advise on that. (You can buy it without a prescription in fact, despite the name.) If your dog turns out to have some form of chronic renal insufficiency then the only other supplements worth trying would be a phosphate binder and perhaps a vitamin B supplement. Ipakitine is a very good phosphate binder, though probably is not required if your dog is exclusively eating a commercial kidney support diet such as the Hills k/d. It is worth giving Rubenal, whatever else is going on.
