Will this coopers spot on keep ticks of cattle

Brian Hoey

how long will it protect cattle from ticks

  • VioVet Staff

This product is only licensed against flies and lice in cattle, but it is licensed to kill fleas, lice and ticks in sheep. There is off license evidence to show that the product can be used to cover for ticks in cattle but as this is an off license use of the medication you will need to discuss with your local vet about whether it is appropriate for your herd in particular. They can also advise on the dose and duration of the tick treating effect.

will this coopers spot on keep ticks of cattle

  • VioVet Staff

The tick license for this product only covers sheep however there is anecdotal off license evidence to say it should have some efficacy against ticks in cattle. This is an off license use of the medication though so you will need to discuss it further with your local vet. Dose suggestions may vary with off license use of a product.

Shelf life

Sunnyhurst

Hi, How long does the product keep for once opened?
Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

Shelf-life of the veterinary medicinal product as packaged for sale is 5 years.

Store in tightly closed original container away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs. Do not store above 25°C. Do not freeze.

Hope that helps,

VioVet.

Can this product be used on horses? foals? pregnant mares?

Margie

We have masses of tics on our horses which we are removing with tic removers but cannot find them all.
There are a lot of deer around and i think that is where they are coming from

  • VioVet Staff

Hello Margie

Thank you for your question.

This product is licensed for cattle, sheep and lambs so would not be suitable for your horse's unless prescribed by a vet.

Hope this helps.

Can the cattle /sheep spot on be used on sheepdog?

  • VioVet Staff

We cannot recommend this product is used on dogs. The active ingredient is sometimes used in other products for dogs, but the dose has to be accurately matched to the weight of the dog. Overdosing can cause toxicity. We would recommend the product Advantix as the nearest equivalent product for dogs. This is safe to use and is particularly good at treating all surface-living parasites on dogs.
