Worm test

Lisa Melton

Hi how does this work please for my two mixed silkie cockerils

  • VioVet Staff

The instructions come inside the kit, incuding where to send the sample for testing. If your birds are in the same flock then you should collect a mixed sample from both as all will need treating regardless of whether only one comes up positive.

How many tests will I need

Donna Burton

I have 5 hens, how many test kits will I need please?

  • VioVet Staff

This product contains a single test per kit. If you are looking to sample each bird invdividually then you will need to purchase a kit per hen. However it is more common and advised to sample the entire flock as you are likely to need to treat the whole flock if necessary anyway. You can mix multiple faecal samples into one pot for this to be sent off.

Is the worm count test a full comprehensive test that test for all intestinal parasites

  • VioVet Staff

This test will check for the following:

  • Gastrointestinal worms that live in the bird’s guts. In poultry
these include roundworm, gizzard worm, hookworm hairworm, caecal worm
    etc.
  • Gape worm which lives in the windpipe.
  • Eimeria (coccidiosis), a microscopic parasitic organism called a protozoa.
