All farm equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected prior to use or transfer between sites to remove any potential disease-causing organisms and cross contamination.

Disinfectant foot dips act as a demonstrable and highly visible sign that biosecurity and disease prevention is taken seriously and more importantly they help prevent disease transfer onto and around farm sites. Place foot dips at all main farm/site entrances, and at entrances to farm buildings and ensure that all personnel and visitors use them.

Fill a suitable container with water adding 50 grams of Virkon S to every 5 litres of water (1:100 dilution rate), stir until dissolved.
Provide two hand brushes with every foot dip. One to remove organic matter prior to disinfection and one to use within the foot dip to wash the boot with.
1. Using a stiff bristled hand brush, remove as much organic matter as possible from the boots remembering to pay particular attention to the sole.
2. Place boot into the foot dip and scrub using a soft hand brush making sure that the whole boot is washed thoroughly with disinfectant solution and paying particular attention to the sole.
3. Replace disinfectant solution on a daily basis disposing of soiled disinfectant responsibly around the farm.
To control organisms that can be introduced into a building during the setting up procedure, and to disinfect inaccessible areas of the building and the air, use either a fine mist sprayer or thermal fogging machine to apply Virkon® S disinfectant solution evenly.

Virkon S can be misted in the presence of livestock or poultry at a dilution rate of 1:200 (0.5%).

While Virkon Aquatic is specifically formulated for aquatic environments and can be used to reduce bacteria load in a koi pond, Virkon S is designed for general agricultural and biosecurity purposes and contains components (like dye and perfume) that are not suitable for fish.

The Virkon S range is a veterinary disinfectant intended for use around animals. Pets should not directly ingest the product (like all other disinfectants) but as long as you follow the cleaning protocols on the packaging then you should have no issues.

Yes this product is diluted before use. For routine disinfection the dilution rate is 1:100, i.e. 10g of Virkon to 1 litre of water.

I want to use this as a disinfect for my rabbit and guinea pig wooden cages and runs. Will this be ok for them or will it be harmful? Do you have to rinse it off afterwards?

Virkon would be fine for disinfecting rabbit and guinea pig accommodation. After using, Virkon should be washed away and the area allowed to dry before re-introducing the animals.
