Good product

Good product. Bought and used as a precautionary measure rather than to actually treat fly strike on the sheep. I only have a small flock to treat so best value for money on that front!
No noticeable side effects. Generally very impressed

How many cows can be treated with 1 litre of Spotinor?

  • VioVet Staff

With Spotinor (10 mg/ml deltamethrin), the recommended dose for cattle is 10 ml per animal (100 mg deltamethrin) vmd.defra.gov.uk+15norbrook.com+15magentadirect.ie+15.
Since 1 litre = 1,000 ml, that means:

  • 1,000 ml ÷ 10 ml per cow = 100 cows per 1 litre of product.

So, you can treat up to 100 cattle with a single 1 litre bottle of Spotinor, provided each animal receives the standard 10 ml dose.

Can I use for horse lice?

Lisa Orme

  • VioVet customer since 2025
  • From: Derbyshire, United Kingdom

Lots of forums on line stating we can use on a horse, so I want to confirm please

  • VioVet Staff

This product is not licensed for use in horses, so we would need a vet prescription to dispense this for you.

Expiry date

Sue

Once opened is there an expiry date, when the rest of the product needs to be used by

  • VioVet Staff

The datasheet states the following:
Shelf-life after first opening the immediate packaging: 6 months
This means if stored at the recommended datasheet conditions then the product will keep for up to 6 months after opening, or until the product expiry date if this is sooner.

Treatment of lice

P Thompson

can this be used on horses

  • VioVet Staff

This product is licensed for use on cattle/sheep only so I cannot advise it's use on horses. I recommend using a horse licensed lice treatment such as Deosect instead.

Can I use this on goats?

Fiona Crosbie

  • VioVet customer since 2016
  • From: South Lanarkshire, United Kingdom

One of my Golden Guernsay goats appears to have lice. I am having difficulty finding a product which even mentions goats!
Would this be safe? Or could you recommend an alternative?
Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

There are very few products that are actually licensed for goats. Spotinor should be fine to use or Zoetis Spot On Insecticide. However because neither are licensed for goats you will unfortunately need a prescription from your vet but we will be happy to supply you with it once you have a prescription. You could also speak to your vet about an injection of Dectomax which can be used to treat lice and mites in goats.
