Specific Heart & Kidney Support is a complete food dogs with heart and kidney problems. It has been specially formulated to be fed to dogs with heart failure (with concurrent kidney failure), hypertension, oedema, chronic renal insufficiency, hepatic insufficiency (except patients with cholestasis), urate, oxalate or cystine urolithiasis. This food contains high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids which help to slow down kidney failure. EPA will help dogs with heart disease as it helps to counteract cachexia, improves arrhythmia and reduces hypertension and platelet aggregation. The food also has reduced sodium levels which will help to prevent water retention, which is dangerous for dogs with heart, kidney or liver problems. It also has reduced protein levels and an alkaline PH which will help to prevent hyperammonaemia in dogs with liver failure and reduce azotemia in dogs with renal failure. The food also has reduced phosphorus levels which are key in slowing kidney insufficientcy and will help to prevent hyperphosphataemia.

  • Heart & kidney support - CKD Heart & Kidney Support has uniquely high levels of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA derived from fish oil. In dogs with cardiac disease, EPA can help support maintenance of lean body mass and appetite, normal cardiac rhythm, blood pressure and aggregation. In dogs with kidney failure, omega-3 fatty acids can help to slow down the progression of kidney failure
  • Heart & kidney support - In congestive heart failure, sodium excretion is reduced as part of the compensatory response to the reduced cardiac output, and consequently sodium and water retention occurs. The reduced sodium level helps to break the vicious circle of water retention. This is essential for both kidney, liver and heart patients
  • Kidney support - A restricted content of phosphorus is essential to reduce hyperphosphataemia and to slow down the progression of kidney insufficiency
  • Liver & kidney support - The reduced content of protein in combination with protein of high biological value reduces azotemia in dogs with renal failure. In dogs with liver failure, it reduces the likelihood of hyperammonaemia and possible hepatic encephalopathy. The high biological value of the proteins supplies a sufficient amount of essential amino acids to the dog
  • Healthy urinary tract support - The restricted protein level reduces the urinary concentrations of oxalate, cystine and urate. Together with the alkaline urine pH, this discourages precipitation of urinary calcium oxalate, cystine and urate crystals and supports a healthy urinary tract. Added potassium citrate helps keep calcium oxalate in solution

Dog would not eat it with or without other food. He went without food for two days rather than have it.

This has been great for my dog. We had to switch him to a special kidney diet quickly and he's taken to this very well. I do half biscuits and half wet food and it suits him. He enjoys his meals, this has been an easy transition. I would recommend.

Sorry but this food didn't suit Bindi. We had to encourage her to eat it and it gave her very loose poo.

Wet food

Hi I’ve just picked up one carton of the pate heart & kidney support, it does say how much to give per meal, my dog is 7.4kg
Kind regards

According to the feeding guidelines your dog will need 380g (1+1/3 of the 300g cartons) every 24 hours if only on this wet food, and if they are an average weight for their breed. This can be spread over multiple meals as required.
