Description

Rheumocam is a modern, non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug which is licensed for use in dogs, cats and horses. It is particularly used for conditions associated with pain, swelling or reduced mobility of bones, joints and muscles. It is sometimes also prescribed to reduce the inflammation and discomfort which occurs following an injury or surgical procedure. It is available as a liquid for dogs, cats and horses and also tablets for dogs. Rheumocam is normally given once daily, with the first dose being a double "loading" dose. (This dose is sometimes given by the vet by injection.) It is important to follow the correct dose as and not to overdose.

It does exactly what it’s needed for. My cat has a tumour on his jaw and nothing can be done, this pain relief is keeping him enjoying life that little bit longer.

My 18 year old cat was prescribed Rheumocam by her vet. It helps her wobbly back legs stay manageable. She's generally healthy so the medication is allowing her to still enjoy life.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Rheumocam, including answers from our team.

Empty stomach

Vick

Can I give my cat rheumocam on an empty stomach. He’s in pain but won’t eat

  • VioVet Staff

Meloxicam in medications like Rheumocam should ideally be given with food or into a stomach with food already in. You can syringe it directly into the mouth just after a meal has been given.
This is a prescription only medication so I recommend running it's use past your vet first as they will need to prescribe it to you.

Correct amount

Suzanne Dooler

My dog weights 34.7kg and it says on info sheets he needs 2 ml of medication how do I measure this out when syringes are measured in kg . Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

This product is prescription only so I advise following your vet's advice on doseage. Usually the product is administered according to the kg weight on the syringe, so your 34.7kg dog should be given a 34.7kg dog once daily. This does vary with individuals so you should follow your vet's advice closely on this.
