Royal Canin Urinary S/O Adult dry Dog Food
ROYAL CANIN® Veterinary Health Nutrition Since 1968, Royal Canin has been following the belief that nutrition plays a key role in supporting the health and wellbeing of cats and dogs. This is why we have designed ROYAL CANIN® veterinary diets around proven nutritional science in partnership with pet professionals and experts, delivering nutrition for pets with specific health needs.
For dogs with urinary sensitivities, a specially tailored diet containing precisely balanced nutrients can help to support good urinary health. ROYAL CANIN® Urinary S/O Dry dog food is specifically formulated with the nutritional needs of dogs with urinary sensitivities in mind.
This urinary food for dogs is suitable for dogs with:
Key Benefits:
- Urine Dilution - ROYAL CANIN® Urinary S/O's exclusive complex helps to dilute your dog's urine, making it less likely for calcium oxalate stones and struvite stones to form in the first place.
- Struvite Dissolution - Struvite is a normal component of your dog's urine that can form crystals or stones if the urine is too concentrated. ROYAL CANIN® Urinary S/O helps to dissolve all types of struvite stones that may form in your dog's bladder.
- Low RSS - Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology is utilised for the development of ROYAL CANIN® Urinary S/O. RSS helps to lower the concentration of ion in your dog's urine, minimising the likelihood of bladder stones forming.
- Low Magnesium - As magnesium is also a natural component of struvite crystals, ROYAL CANIN® Canine Urinary S/O is formulated with a reduced level of magnesium.
As part of the ROYAL CANIN® Veterinary Health Nutrition range, it is important that this product is only given to your pet when recommended by a veterinary professional. To cater to each dog's individual preferences, ROYAL CANIN® Canine Urinary S/O is also available as wet food in either a delicious gravy or a soft and tasty loaf. If you're considering mixed feeding, simply follow our feeding guidelines to ensure your dog gets an accurate amount of both wet and dry food for optimal benefit.
Please note: ROYAL CANIN® Canine Urinary S/O dry dog food is not suitable for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), heart disease (when sodium restriction is sought), concurrent use of urine-acidifying medication, growth, gestation, lactation.

Urine undersaturating or metastabilising properties for struvite and/or Urine acidifying properties. RECOMMENDATIONS: It is recommended that advice from a veterinarian be sought before use and before extending the period of use. This is a standard Urinary dog food which has been used, successfully, for the last five years. It helps to keep the pH level in the correct frame.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding ROYAL CANIN® Urinary S/O Adult Dog Food, including answers from our team.
Jim Reid
Our small labradoodle has been diagnosed with struvite crystals in her bladder. We have been trying to get her to accept Royal Canin SO and have tried both wet and dry versions. However she refuses to have anything to do with either. She readily accepts her normal food which is raw minced chicken and tripe. We have been adding water to this in the hope that the water addition will in some way help with dilution of the crystals.
I am reluctant to be trying different prescription foods at random due to the cost and the fear of being left with a pile of tins and bags. Can you suggest an approach ?
Please see a vet regarding this as we cannot advise if your under vet care

is this renal dog food
This is a urinary veterinary diet. The Royal Canin Renal diet range can be found in the link here.
You should only use veterinary diets alongside your vets advice to ensure they are appropriate for your specific pet. There is a range of renal diets and the correct one for your pet will vary.

I wanted to ask about the Royal Canin Urinary dog food. I have been purchasing the CD urinary wet food for some time. It seems as if they are not able to provide it anymore. I am thinking of purchasing Royal Canin instead. Can you please tell me how much they recommend I give to a dog weighting 12kg per day as I'm trying to weight up the prices?
Thanks
Any dietary changes regarding urinary diets should be run past your vet as there are different types of urinary food which are used to treat/prevent very different urinary disorders. Giving the wrong type of diet can worsen your dog's current urinary issue.
Royal Canin S/O should be fed at 188g per day to a 12kg dog of normal weight, split into however many feeds you are used to giving.

We were regular purchasers of Royal Canin dog food for more than ten years but you became suddenly more expensive, we then found Pets at Home to be significantly cheaper. Unfortunately we have now found we need the Urinary S/O LP18 and thought I'd check your prices out and find for a 14kg bag your price is around £20 more expensive than Pets at Home, are you aware?
Hello Richard,
Thank you for your question.
Unfortunately our prices are influenced by changes in the market and what we are charged by our suppliers, so sometimes they have to increase to match. We always reduce prices where we can to be as competitive as possible.
Hope this helps.

Hello.
My 11 year old female cocker spaniel has been diagnosed with a UTI we need to increase her water intake but is proving difficult. Can u recommend anything that would help this?
Kind regards
Samantha
This is an interesting point and personally I would recommend not using any dried diet in a dog with this sort of problem. A dog is always playing catch-up with their water intake if they are on a dried diet. I suggest you use the wet versions of the food (tinned or pouches) and you can even add a little warm water to them and make the food a bit like a casserole. It is also worth keeping a bowl of rainwater in the garden if you can. Some dogs like to lap at "outside" water when they come across some, even if they are not really thirsty.

Hi.. my 5 year old pug is currently on the day food and I was wondering if the wet food is also hydrolysed as the biscuits are? He has allergies and is okay on the dry small dog biscuits but I would like to add in some wet food also.. Thanks in advance
I believe that if your dog is allergic to pork, then this we food would not be suitable. Effectively that should be the only difference between the diets but it is difficult to be sure about these things. Many dogs have multiple allergies, though some of these are not true allergies and the apparent sensitivity can seem to disappear in time after a change in diet. I would say that if his allergies caused a huge amount of trouble for him, but now things are settled, then it would be sensible to stay with what you are doing and not add a new food. However if the problems were not that bad it would be worth testing him on a tiny amount of wet food and seeing if he tolerates it. I think it would be unusual for a dog to be OK on the dried from of this food but not the wet, as the dried contains many un-hydrolysed proteins and is not a try hypoallergenic diet like the fully hydrolysed types.
What is the difference between
Is there big difference in the dry food my dog has had gu stones crystal in his urine. His had the stones removed his a 7 yr old bulldog
S/O and U/C are intended for different types of crystal/stone in the bladder. Most dogs require S/O but this is something you should check with your vet about.
