Benefits of Moxiclear

André

For Moxiclear a prescription is necessary why?
What makes Moxiclear superior to other wormer/tick/lice treatment?
What does Moxiclear kill that over the counter worming products don't?
How often do you need to re apply ?
My dog in question are 2 GSD's 45kgs.
Thank you

  • VioVet Staff

Moxiclear contains moxidectin which treats fleas, mites, lice and roundworm including canine lungworm. Only wormers containing moxidectin or milbemycin will cover the most common cause of canine lungworm in the UK. These are prescription only unfortunately.
If you just want to cover routine worms (roundworms/tapeworms) then a combination worming tablet like TermaWorm is suitable and can be purchased over the counter.
Moxiclear should be used monthly. It is also worth noting that over the counter flea/worming will not cover mites, like Moxiclear does.

You should be using a tapewormer alongside Moxiclear though as it does not cover this, such as Droncit.

How many doses

Moxiclear

I read that each box has four pipettes. Does that mean there are four treatments? How far apart should treatments be given?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes, each box has 4 pipettes and the dose will be one pipette each time it is due (assuming you purchase the size appropriate for your pet). The standard dose frequency is monthly. This is a prescription only medication though so you should follow your vet's advice primarily on dosing.

Moxiclear effect time & mushrooms ?

Andy Mitchell

Hi, How long does it take to have effect and would this also protect my dog if she eats mushrooms.
Many thank’s
Andrew Mitchell

The datasheet for this product states 'After topical administration of the product, imidacloprid is rapidly
distributed over the animal’s skin within one day of application'.
This product protects pets against fleas, mice, lice and roundworm (including lungworm). This is an anti-parasitic product and so it won't protect against ill effects from eating mushrooms. The risk with mushrooms is that the fungi itself can be toxic, there is no way to protect against this apart from preventing your dog from eating them.
