Fipronil kills live adult fleas, lice and ticks on contact. S-methoprene works by penetrating the shell of newly laid eggs or by being absorbed through the immature flea's body surface to prevent their growth and further development into adults, thereby limiting an ongoing infestation. (Sorry fleas!). Part the hair on the back of your pet's neck, snap the top of the pipette, and apply the entire pipette liquid to the exposed skin, then reward for good behaviour.
