I've been battling northern fowl mites on and off for a couple of years and had spent a fortune and hours treating chickens and hutches with different products. At first I thought it wasn't working as there were still some mites 24 hours after the first dose but by the time they had their 2nd a week later I've not seen a mite anywhere and they all have clean fluffy bottom feathers again. It is definitely worth the money and the fuss of getting a prescription.

Would this be used just as a preventative measure or do they physically have to have red mite before this is used?
Exzolt 10 mg/ml solution is specifically designed to control red mite infestations in chickens. It’s used as a treatment once red mites are detected rather than just a preventative measure.
The product works by killing existing mites when added to the chickens’ drinking water over a prescribed treatment period, effectively breaking the parasite’s lifecycle. It’s not typically recommended for routine, preventive use without evidence of infestation because unnecessary treatment can contribute to resistance and may be costly.
If you suspect red mites or see symptoms like itching, feather damage, or decreased egg production, then Exzolt would be appropriate to use following the label instructions or veterinary advice.
So, in summary: Exzolt is for treating active red mite infestations, not for regular prevention.

What is the dose measures please ?
For use in drinking water. The dose is 0.5 mg fluralaner per kg body weight (equivalent to 0.05 ml of product) administered twice, 7 days apart. The complete course of treatment must be administered for a full therapeutic effect.
If another course of treatment is indicated, the interval between two courses of treatment should be at least 3 months.

Does it treat scaly leg mite?
Exzolt is licensed for red mite control in poultry, not scaly leg mite.
It’s unlikely to be reliably effective against scaly leg mite.
