My mare is only 4. Spring to autumn last year she was rather unpleasant. It started again this spring so now a pattern. Started seeing consistent benefits after about 2-3 weeks and I will happily keep her on it. Whether I keep her on it during winter I don't know but it's been a lifesaver during the summer months!

The product works a treat, just a shame it comes in such a massive sack when a 1/3 of the packaging would suffice

Our mare is definitely less sharp now in expressing her own special opinion. Can even eat from one feeder with another horse now.

Every winter I have an 'issue' with my mare broncing and generally getting rather irritated/ angry at me whilst applying any leg aid. After a discussion with my trainer, who's own mare was showing similar behaviour's we agreed it could be a hormone imbalance. I like to supplement as naturally as possible and D&H is my go to brand. Two weeks in she's much more settled in her ridden work, she seems more content, and there's no extreme reaction to my leg aids anymore, so I do believe it is working. It is worth a try.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Dodson & Horrell Stroppy Mare for Horses, including answers from our team.

Feeding

Lauren

Do I keep feeding this or only feed it when my mare is in season?

  • VioVet Staff

This product can be safely used when your horse is in or out of season. It's intended use is for when your horse is 'stroppy' or unsettled as it provides a calming effect. It can be used when your horse is not in season if this calming effect is still needed.

When to feed

Kim

When is it best to add to feed. My horse normally as one meal and this is around tea time. And how long will it take to see the results. Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

As long as the supplement is given once a day you can give it morning or evening so adding it to her feed at tea time is fine. Supplements like this seem to work better for some horses than others but you would hope to see a difference within a month.

Can I feed this along side regumate?

Aimee holt

Hi there

I've just started my mare on regumate because she is having bad seasons which are causing her to be very sensitive in the canter and also try's to bite me when I do her girth up.

Would this product be ok to feed alongside regumate?

Thanks

Aimee

  • VioVet Staff

Yes, it would be perfectly acceptable to feed this supplement alongside Regumate since they work in different ways. There are no clinical studies to suggest how effective supplements like this are but people do report good results.
