Looks and smells nice. The stroppy mare it's for eats it happily. I have been using it for just over a month and I think it may just be beginning to kick in. I bought it because although her usual self to ride she started being a right madam on the ground - refusing to be caught, ripping lead ropes and reins out of your hands and buggering off, not standing still to be mounted. We had recently moved yards and this was new behaviour but I was also really noticing when she was in season which I never had previously (she's 12 and I've had since she was 5) so I thought I'd try Stroppy Mare as it was a reasonable price and had great reviews. Her behaviour is improving, although she still has her moments she is much easier to catch and only got away from me twice in the last couple of weeks, so I'll keep using it until at least the end of the summer.

Looking for advice

Ellie

I’m currently using stroppy mare for my mare she has recently gained a new stable buddy next to her and now does not seem relaxed in her stable would she be better on placid mix or can stroppy mare and placid mix be used together I’m pretty new to this sort of thing she was on placid mix when I brought her thank you

  • VioVet Staff

Stroppy Mare is mainly aimed at mares that are stressed when they are in season. It is safe to use outside of this time period but if you are not seeing any beneficial effects then I recommend using a general calmer, such as Placid. They share similar ingredients so I would not use both together as you will be giving an overdose of the product if combined.

Feeding

Lauren

Do I keep feeding this or only feed it when my mare is in season?

  • VioVet Staff

This product can be safely used when your horse is in or out of season. It's intended use is for when your horse is 'stroppy' or unsettled as it provides a calming effect. It can be used when your horse is not in season if this calming effect is still needed.

When to feed

Kim

When is it best to add to feed. My horse normally as one meal and this is around tea time. And how long will it take to see the results. Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

As long as the supplement is given once a day you can give it morning or evening so adding it to her feed at tea time is fine. Supplements like this seem to work better for some horses than others but you would hope to see a difference within a month.

Can I feed this along side regumate?

Aimee holt

Hi there

I've just started my mare on regumate because she is having bad seasons which are causing her to be very sensitive in the canter and also try's to bite me when I do her girth up.

Would this product be ok to feed alongside regumate?

Thanks

Aimee

  • VioVet Staff

Yes, it would be perfectly acceptable to feed this supplement alongside Regumate since they work in different ways. There are no clinical studies to suggest how effective supplements like this are but people do report good results.
