Everyday wellness from day one, with Burns. Made with simple, natural, high quality ingredients, this complete recipe has helped generations of dogs to thrive.
Burns Original Chicken & Brown Rice is formulated to support general wellness and vitality, with single-source protein, wholegrains and limited ingredients for easy digestion.
Veterinary surgeon John Burns began making dog food in 1993 to help dogs stay healthy, creating simple, natural, highly digestible complete recipes. He'd seen how poor diets caused skin, digestive and behaviour issues. We still follow that same straightforward approach - wholesome ingredients, solid science and a focus on what dogs truly need.
DAILY FEEDING GUIDELINES
Choose the starting point that best fits your dog:
Standard adult dogs: 14g per 1kg of body weight per day (for dogs with typical daily activity).
Sensitive adult dogs: 10g per 1kg of body weight per day (for dogs who do better on smaller meals, especially those with delicate digestion).
Senior dogs: 8g per 1kg of body weight per day (for older or less active dogs).
Every dog is different; adjust the quantity to suit your dog’s individual needs. You may need to reduce the amount you feed for several reasons, such as if your dog is neutered, less active, or fussy. Overeating can lead to digestive issues. For dogs that are overweight, base the daily feeding amounts on their target weight rather than their current weight. You may also need to increase the daily amount for a more active dog. Unless advised otherwise, transition your dog to their new food gradually over 10–14 days.
| Body Weight | Standard Adult | Sensitive Adult | Senior |
| 5kg | 70g | 50g | 40g |
| 10kg | 140g | 100g | 80g |
| 20kg | 280g | 200g | 160g |

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Burns Original Chicken & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, including answers from our team.
Nicola Maslin
Hi I have a boxer who will be 11 this year, he weighs 35.7kg, does not run around like he used to and has dry chappie and cooked chicken mince. The quantity it says for his weight is this once a day. As he has 2 meals a day .
Thank you
Hi Nicola,
The amount recommended on the Burns feeding guideline is total grams per day, and you can split this into the number of meals you prefer to feed. There is a range of 240g - 320g given for senior dogs weighing between 30-40kg, so you could perhaps start him on a total of 300g, split into two 150g meals per day. After a couple of weeks you can see how he's getting on and adjust the amount up or down as needed.
I hope this helps!
Kind regards,
Danielle
