I ordered this online as I had seen fleas on my dog. I treated her in the morning and went to work at my desk, I came to check on her 4 hours later and there were already dead fleas in her bed. It's been 3 days since treating her and she has stopped scratching and looks flea free, I've not seen anymore. No side effects seen either. What a fantastic product for fleas and it sounds like it will be great for ticks as well. Plus it was super easy to give in her biscuits with it's meaty flavour.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Advantage Chewable Tablets Flea & Tick Protection for Dogs, including answers from our team.

5 days after 1st treatment and fleas still active

Gail Peake

Is this usual. That all fleas have gone after 5 days from treatment

  • VioVet Staff

It’s not uncommon for fleas to still be active up to 5 days after the first treatment, especially when using flea treatments like Advantage Chewable Tablets. Here's what you should know:
Why Fleas May Still Be Active After 5 Days:
Life Cycle of Fleas: Fleas don’t all die immediately after treatment. The treatment works by targeting the adult fleas, but the eggs, larvae, and pupae may still remain in the environment. These stages can hatch and become adults, which might appear active even after you've treated your dog.
Treatment Time: While Advantage Chewable Tablets typically kill fleas within 12 hours of administration (and ticks in around 48 hours), eggs and larvae in the environment may still hatch and re-infest your dog. It’s common to see fleas for up to a week as these new fleas become adults.
Reinfestation: If your home or yard has a flea problem (such as untreated carpets, bedding, or other pets), your dog can pick up new fleas even after treatment. This is why environmental control is also key.
What to Do:
Continue the Treatment: The medication will continue to kill fleas over time, but you might need to wait a few more days to see the full effect.
Treat the Environment: Make sure to treat your dog’s bedding, carpet, and indoor areas with a flea spray or fogger designed for the environment. You may also want to treat any other pets in the household to avoid reinfestation.
Repeat Treatment: If fleas persist after the initial treatment period, your vet may recommend another dose or a different product, depending on the severity of the flea infestation.
Check for Ticks: If you’re also concerned about ticks, make sure that you’re following any additional tick-control steps, as fleas and ticks sometimes require slightly different treatment plans.
In Summary:
It’s normal for some fleas to still be active up to 5 days after the first treatment, but they should start dying off as the treatment continues.
Environmental control (such as treating your home) is important to fully eliminate the flea problem.
If the fleas don’t seem to be dying off after 7–10 days, or if you notice other issues (like itching or hair loss), it’s worth checking in with your vet to ensure you're on the right track.

Flea dosage

Chris

Can you use the tablet even though the dog has had a dose of one spot

  • VioVet Staff

It’s best not to use the Advantage chewable tablet (lotilaner) at the same time as a spot-on treatment (like Advantage spot‑on/Imidacloprid). These products contain different active ingredients, and combining them won’t improve protection—it may only increase the risk of side effects
