Hi. I have a fussy 8 month old westie. Would this food be ok to try him on? I want to keep his diet as natural as possible & avoid things that are likely to upset the infamous delicate westie digestion! Thx.
The first thing to do is to look in a detached way and assess your dog's bodyweight. You might be better to get your vet or a vet nurse to do this. You must decide if your dog is too slim, just right (which is actually quite slim by most people's judgment) or at all heavier than ideal. In fact almost every fussy dog is either overweight or ill. I presume your dog is not ill, so he is very likely to be heavier than I would say is ideal. Obviously I have not seen your dog, so forgive me if I am wrong, but that would usually be the case.
If your dog is at all overweight then ideally you should feed him less (ie he finished a meal still feeling a bit hungry but has to stop because it is all gone!) If you do that you will certainly find that over time he becomes not at all fussy and will get to the correct bodyweight, which is better in every regard except that kind, well-meaning owners find it very difficult to do. This would then be a very good diet for your dog, should keep him very healthy and he would love to eat it (because he was genuinely hungry at all times, which you might find difficult to live with, but is more natural for a dog). It is an odd paradox that the most cared-for dogs are not necessarily the healthiest. That is very much a sign of our times.
