People who are considering getting a cat that they could spoil with pet toys and treats may want to think about adopting one of the 500 cats currently in need of new homes in the south east of England.
Comedian Ricky Gervais has backed an appeal by the RSPCA for potential owners to come to the charity’s branches and centres.
He said: "I would encourage everyone who can, to think about adopting a cat from the RSPCA. There are cats and kittens that are really crying out for a good home."
At present, the RSPCA is caring for more cats that have been neglected or abandoned than ever before.
All cats from the RSPCA are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. The cost for this is all included in the adoption fee, which also includes initial pet insurance for the animal.
Gervais is known as a supporter of animal rights. He has a cat called Ollie, which was given to him by Jonathan Ross when he made an appearance on his show.
